MESH DECKS

Our mesh decks are customised to meet the needs of each individual project.

Not all pallets are the same and one size does not fit all. Loading points can vary greatly across a mesh deck and it is important than the loads are fully supported.

Mesh Decks vs. Timber Decks for Pallet Racking: A Comparison

When it comes to selecting the ideal decking material for pallet racking systems, two commonly considered options are mesh decks and timber decks. By examining their respective advantages and features, we can help you make an informed decision for optimizing your pallet racking setup.

Mesh Decks for Pallet Racking:
Mesh decking, often composed of galvanized or powder coated steel, offers several benefits specifically tailored for pallet racking applications. Here's an overview of its key features:

1. Enhanced Safety: Mesh decks provide optimal visibility and allow for efficient sprinkler system penetration. This ensures that fire suppression systems are effective while providing clear visibility for inventory management, safety inspections, and reducing potential hazards.

2. Improved Ventilation: The open-grid design of mesh decks promotes excellent airflow, allowing proper ventilation throughout the pallet racking system. This feature is particularly valuable for storage areas that require temperature regulation or for storing goods that are sensitive to moisture.

3. Increased Load Capacity: Mesh decks are renowned for their high load-bearing capacity, enabling them to support heavy loads without compromising the structural integrity of the pallet racking system. This makes them ideal for storing items with significant weight or concentrated loads.

4. Durability and Longevity: Mesh decks are highly durable, resistant to corrosion, and immune to issues like rot and decay that timber decks may experience. They can withstand demanding warehouse environments, reducing the need for frequent replacements and associated costs.

Timber Decks for Pallet Racking:
Timber decks have long been a popular choice for pallet racking applications. While they possess distinct characteristics, it is essential to consider their suitability for your specific needs. Here are some key aspects of timber decks:

1. Natural Aesthetics: Timber decks add a warm and natural aesthetic to the pallet racking system. This can be desirable in settings where visual appeal is important or for applications where the warehouse doubles as a retail space.

2. Customization and Flexibility: Timber decks can be easily cut and customized to fit specific rack sizes and configurations. They offer versatility in terms of staining, painting, or finishing options, enabling you to match the aesthetic requirements of your facility.

3. Affordability: Timber decks are generally more cost-effective upfront compared to mesh decks. If budget constraints are a significant consideration, timber decks may provide a viable option for your pallet racking system. However the cost variance is closing in these economic times

4. Maintenance Requirements: Timber decks typically require regular maintenance to preserve their appearance and structural integrity. This includes inspections for signs of decay, damage, or warping, as well as periodic treatments such as staining, sealing, and protection against moisture or insect infestation.

Conclusion:
When selecting between mesh decks and timber decks for pallet racking applications, it is crucial to weigh the specific requirements of your warehouse environment. Mesh decks offer enhanced safety, ventilation, load capacity, and durability, making them an excellent choice for heavy-duty or regulated environments. Timber decks, on the other hand, provide natural aesthetics, customization options, and affordability. By carefully considering your priorities and budget, you can make an informed decision to optimize your pallet racking system for efficient storage and operations.

Garantel waterfall mesh decks

Waterfall mesh decks

Waterfall mesh decks offer a weld mesh type covering to stop pallets falling through the beams.

They are called 'waterfall' because this describes the small overhang at the front of the mesh decks that are located at the front of the beam (typically 20mm overhang), with a lip to secure the decks to the beams.

Waterfall mesh decks are often used to replace wooden planks because they offer better coverage and let light through so you can see the unpalletised or palletised loads.

Installation of waterfall mesh decks are encouraged by fire safety officers because they allow better water ingress and they don't lose strength when wet like chipboard or wood.

Mesh dividers can fitted on to the mesh decks to segment the beam location, ideal for bulky flat objects such as furniture packs.

Up Stand mesh deck

Upstand decks

Use Upstand mesh decks to prevent boxes being pushed off the back in between the flu of the racks.

Upstand mesh decks are similar to waterfall mesh decks, but include a folded end piece of mesh about 20-40mm high to prevent loads falling off the back of the rack.

These are particular useful for hand loaded goods.

mesh decks for double racking

Mesh decks for double racking

Use mesh decks for double racking for storing long boxes, such as bicycles, garden furniture and large flat-pack items.

These mesh decks are usually configured by connecting straight mesh deck with waterfall mesh decks where the racks are back-to-back, linking two bays together, sharing the middle beam for support.
