Pallet racking
In the fast-paced world of warehousing and logistics, the efficient storage of goods is paramount for the smooth operation of any business. Pallet racking has emerged as a versatile and practical solution for storing a wide range of products in warehouses, cold rooms, and even outdoor spaces. Among the various options available, Adjustable Pallet Racking (APR) stands out as the most popular choice, offering flexibility, organization, and space optimization for modern storage needs.
Flexibility and Versatility
APR's adjustability enables businesses to reconfigure the racking system to accommodate changing inventory requirements. This flexibility ensures optimal use of available space and efficient storage solutions.
Space Optimization
By utilizing the vertical space effectively, APR maximizes storage capacity without the need for extensive expansions or additional facilities. It allows businesses to store more goods in a compact area.
Ease of Access and Inventory Management
Adjustable Pallet Racking provides easy access to stored goods, streamlining loading and unloading processes. This enhances overall inventory management and reduces the time required for material handling.
Improved Safety Measures
Customizable APR configurations ensure safe and organized storage, minimizing the risk of accidents, product damage, and potential injuries to workers.
Cost-Effectiveness
APR offers a strong return on investment by optimizing space, reducing labor costs, and improving overall warehouse productivity.
Pallet racking is the ultimate storage solution for palletiised goods in numerous demanding industrial and commercial environments. It comes in various sizes and loading strengths to suit the type of equipment or retail stock stored. Our range of pallet racking can be fitted with secure mesh doors and panels for extra safety as wel as anti-collapse mesh and timber or metal decking to prevent items falling from height.
Understanding Adjustable Pallet Racking (APR)
Adjustable Pallet Racking, commonly known as APR, is a system designed to accommodate palletized goods in an organized and efficient manner. The key feature of APR is its adjustability, allowing businesses to customize the racking to fit different pallet sizes and storage requirements. This adaptability makes it a go-to choice for warehouses with diverse product inventories.

Pallet Size, Including Height, Weight, and Load Type
The first consideration involves the pallet size, height, weight of the goods being stored, and the specific load type. Different products may have varying dimensions and weight, and the racking system must be able to handle these variations effectively. Additionally, the load type, whether square boxes or overhanging bags, plays a role in determining the appropriate racking configuration.
Pallet storage type
The second consideration revolves around the pallet storage type, which affects the beam width and frame depth of the pallet racking system. Standard beam width is commonly set at 2.7 meters and allows up to 2 pallets. The frame depth, on the other hand, can be either 900mm deep for UK pallet storage (1200mm by 1000mm) or 1100mm deep for EU pallet storage (1200mm by 800mm). It's important to choose the appropriate frame depth to match the type of pallets being used in the warehouse.
For EU pallet storage, the deeper frame depth allows for the storage of three pallets in a 2.7m bay compared to two pallets for UK pallet storage. However, this layout may require wider aisles to accommodate the additional width of the pallet and the forklift truck.
Size of Forklift Truck
The third consideration is the type and size of the forklift truck that will be used to handle the pallets. The aisle widths in the warehouse must be designed to accommodate the forklift's dimensions to ensure smooth and safe movement. Selecting the right pallet racking system ensures efficient material handling and minimizes the risk of accidents and damage to the racking.
Increasing the storage density of adjustable pallet racking
To maximise storage, adjustable pallet racking can be configured with fewer aisles. The layout options are:
Double entry, back-to-back
In this configuration, 4 rows of racking are built back-to-back and pallets are pushed to the back to allow double-deep storage. This halves the number of aisles and effectively doubles the capacity of the warehouse.
Drive-through
In this configuration, the pallets are loaded from the ends, and pushed through to the other end to be off-loaded. This eliminates all aisles, maximising warehouse space.
Push-back
In this configuration, the pallets loaded from the front and placed on slightly inclined rails. As more pallets are loaded, the previously installed pallets are pushed back on their rails. When off-loading, the pallets stacked behind rolls to the front on its rails. A depth up to 7 rows of racks can be installed and requires only one aisle. This offers the most convenient and space-saving configuration.
Adjustable Pallet Racking (APR) is a game-changer for modern warehousing and storage solutions. Its adaptability, space optimization, and easy access to stored goods make it the preferred choice for businesses looking to enhance their storage capabilities and streamline operations. By carefully considering the pallet type, forklift truck size, pallet size, and weight of goods, businesses can select the most suitable APR configuration to meet their specific storage needs. Embracing the benefits of APR not only ensures a well-organized and efficient warehouse but also sets the stage for increased productivity and growth in the competitive world of logistics and supply chain management.
